Self-discipline. Online and distance learning classes require that you study and take the time for the class. No one will be there to hold your hand and make sure that your assignments are done. Many educational systems are facing a budget crisis. When schools are facing a budget crisis they look to cut costs wherever they can. Many schools will cut costs even at the expense of a child’s education. Luckily, many schools are turning to parents to provide an educational setting that is both productive and beneficial for the students. Here’s a look at how parents are being called upon to help in the classrooms and help with the ever shrinking budget.

Parent Helpers. Many schools are asking parents to volunteer their time to help in the classroom. Parents are able to help with reading programs, our projects or even to help students learn mathematics skills and handwriting. Parent helpers are great way to provide extra resources in the classroom and allow teachers to focus on other educational needs.

Classroom Supplies. School classrooms need to be equipped with a number of classroom supplies. As the educational system budget shrinks classroom supplies must also shrink. Many teachers are taking their own money in providing classroom supplies for the students. However, teachers are asking parents to rewrite some of the classroom supplies that are necessary. Parents can help in providing tissues, paper, chalk and anti- bacterial wipes. For every supply a student’s parent provides is less of a strain on the teacher and the educational system.

Parent Expert. Many parents specialize in the number of different areas of expertise. Some parents can come to the classroom and teach their students how to play musical instruments or even teach them art. This allows schools to capitalize on the expertise of the parents without having to hire another extra teacher. This means students get that area of expertise without having to feel the strain of the educational system’s budget.

Before you buy a car you normally research which car is right for you, how much the car costs, what kind of financing can you get and what kind of warranty comes with the car. Applying to an online school is really no different from buying a car. You need to do your research where online schools are concerned.

First and foremost is to always make sure the college is accredited. Most will say so on the website but you can check at the US Department of Education for a full list of accredited online colleges. If the college you are looking into is not accredited, virtually no one will consider your degree or credits valid.

Consider the courses. Make sure they have courses that you are interested in or degree’s that you want. Are the credits transferable? And a good question to ask is how long does it take for an average person to complete the program? At a college campus, you go to school a set number of days, for a few hours a day, and you have a set time to complete the program. This is not the case for an online school.

Ask about financial aid. Some schools accept grants and financial aid, even helping you to apply for them. If they don’t accept financial aid, do they offer a payment plan? This is where it’s probably a good idea to talk with someone over the phone. They may have more than one payment plan to fit your budget.

Also, make sure that staff and tech support will be available to you, at any time, should you need them. Most people attend online colleges because they work or have children, and you need to know how to contact the staff. You want to know that they will be there for your needs even if it’s after hours.

A few years ago, the youth of our country were known as “Generation X,” but no more. Now the generation in which we live is that of “Generation Net.” Why is that? It’s because the youth today have grown up on the Internet. While their parents might think of using the Internet as one of many resources in their lives; most of today’s youth may not even know of references that their parents are used to using.

If a teen wants to know where the movie theatre is, they get on the internet to find one; while their parents will look in the phone book. If they want to know what’s showing, they’ll get on the movie theater’s web site; while their parents will look in the newspaper. If they want to know about the climate in Sudan, they’ll Google it, instead of looking in an atlas like their parents.

If this is the way that our children see the world, why are we still trying to force them to learn like their parents? The parents used textbooks, but the children would rather throw them in the garbage. It’s not the information that they’re throwing out; it’s the format in which that information is presented.

With today’s youth, the way to get them to pay attention to something is to put it on a screen. This is the way that they are accustomed to look at their world. In fact, the youth of today spend an average of 7.5 hours per day looking at computer screens, televisions, and their cell phones.

Our schools need to adapt themselves to the way that these youth are seeing the world. If we take the same information that are in the textbooks and put it on an interactive web site, not only will they be willing to do the work, they’ll enjoy it. Since they will enjoy it, they’ll learn more.

Everyone student enjoys their time off from classes. But, not everyone gets the most out of those times. Let’s take for example summer vacation. If we were to go on the street and ask any 100 kids what they’re going to do with their summer vacation, the most common answer by far would be “just hang out.”

The average student doesn’t have any idea what to do with all that free time, and therefore just wastes it, doing nothing. They watch television, play electronic games, hang out with their friends, or just plain get in trouble.

Did you know that the average student forgets a large part of what they’ve learned over summer vacation? In fact, in the average classroom, the teacher spends the first six weeks of the school year reviewing things that the students learned the last year and forgot over the summer. That’s one sixth of the school year; lost to forgetfulness!

Why does this problem exist? Basically, it’s because our children take summer vacation a little too seriously. When they leave school on that last day, they unplug any academic part of their brain, so that only the fun focused parts function.

I’m not suggesting that we do away with summer vacation (I enjoyed it too). But, I think that we, as parents, can and should help our kids make more of their summer vacations.

How? More than anything by encouraging our kids to do their hanging out at the library. Reading is not only the most basic of academic skills, but it’s a great way to keep one’s brain sharp. Kids who read will continue learning, even if they’re just reading stories. Then, get them to talk about what they’re reading. That helps them remember, and learn how to express (important for creative writing).

Help your kids make the most of their vacation, as a wise man once said; “everything a person learns is useful sometime in their life.”

Kerala has long been considered as one of the states in India with the largest rate of literacy. The educational scenario is pretty much developed with each and every child from every house, be it from a financially sound background or otherwise, given an opportunity to attain a minimum of basic educational qualification.

It has been noted that the subjects taught are some of the most advanced types with high standard, leading to the speculation that the children are well educated with a high rate of knowledge and skills. This may perhaps be the reason that most of the companies have at the least one person from Kerala working for them in various departments.

The whole concept of education is given high importance in the state. Each year a lot of finance spent on it ensuring that only the best of the best is given to the children to develop their skills. Every facility is provided in the schools so that the children feel comfortable and can concentrate more on their strengths and develop it.

A lot of steps have been taken to ensure that every family sends their children to school for education. This includes free lunch for the children at the schools, free education for the girl child, and even the ration of rice grains are given at some places to encourage the parents to send their child to school rather than sending them for work.

These steps have succeeded in keeping the children in schools. The standard of the curriculum in the state board schools are quite high with every subject revised periodically to keep in touch with the latest developments and scenarios in the world. There are elective languages in the schools with a wide variety to ensure that each child have master skills in at least one language.

There are many parents in India, mostly from the lower financial resources who think that educating their child is a waste of time when he or she can help the family by working and earning money. This is an attitude is a common one that is encountered in almost every region where you find people below the poverty level.

The only way to get rid of this attitude is by educating the parents themselves or making them understand about the importance of education how gradually it can uplift the family, and that sending the child for work is a temporary solution to their woes while educating the child would result in long term benefits. This can be quite difficult especially when the family is big with a lot of children.

Another way of letting them send their child to schools is by making up for the resources they loose by doing so. The first thing that concerns these families is how they would feed themselves and the children if there would be no money. This can be solved by giving the children at least one meal a day at the schools with nutritious food to keep them from malnutrition.

Free education can be given to girl child of the families so that they don’t feel they are wasting their time educating the girls, which is a common outlook of the families. But thankfully this attitude is changing all over India as a result of the huge campaigns conducted to increase the literacy rate of the country. Improvements have been seen so far in the literacy rate of girls.

It is indeed still a concern that even though the government has tried its best to provide education you find a small percentage of child labor in the country. This last percentage has to be covered by giving each and every child the right to education.

There used to be a time when girls were considered a burden on their families and educating them seemed to be the ultimate waste. The common answer to the inquiry why that is so was that educating girls would be wasted as they were destined to get married and settle with their own family, so getting them educated would be waste of time when they can earn by working in the fields or companies.

Thankfully, this attitude has undergone a marked change during the past years with the literacy rate of the girls going up to a satisfactory level. The reasons are many but the major contribution goes to the campaigns and movements taken by various groups to uplift the standard of literacy among girls in the country.

The government has launched many policies regarding the education of the girl child. Free education is one such policy where the girls don’t have to pay fees for their education. All the children are also given a meal everyday from the schools eliminating the need for the parents to spend money for that which has led to the families sending their children to school.

There are plenty of scholarships and sponsors for educating girl children. Every bright student is given an opportunity to pursue higher studies in the field of their interest. The girls who have special talents like those in sports or some vocational subjects are given extra training in that area so that they can specialize in it.

The increase in the literacy percentage of the girls has led to a marked change in the society and more of them are coming forward in various fields of work. There are many women are truly indispensable when it comes to doing the job assigned to them. All this has been possible due to the education they received or due the development of their skills.

When deciding to further your education, whether you’re just coming out of high school, you’re a stay-at-home mom, or you want job advancement, you now have a choice of what college you choose to attend. Online college or traditional college campus. Sometimes the choice is an easy one other times it is not. So how do you decide if an online degree is right for you? Answer the questions below and it may just help you decide.

Will you be comfortable in the at-home environment, or do you need the traditional school setting? Some of us learn better in a group setting, where you can see the teacher face to face and interact with other students. Some of us tend to learn better individually, with minimal contact from the teacher. If you are the latter, an online degree is going to be the best choice for you.

Is the school accredited? Potential employers may overlook your resume if the college is not accredited or seemingly disreputable. Make sure you do your research to make sure the college is accredited and not just the class. It would be pointless to put in your time and effort if it’s all going to be for naught.

Will the school accept financial aid, scholarships and grants? Some do not and prefer cash or monthly payments. If you have financial issues, then your likely going to need the benefit of one or all of these. Call the school directly if you do not see this mentioned on their website.

Do you have the time to dedicate to an online degree? An online degree can be a good alternative for someone who works or has children. However, it also requires that you be able to put in the time needed to complete your assignments. If you can’t set aside time for this, an online degree may not be for you.
